Peoria, IL- The Peoria Chiefs left six men on base in the last three innings of a game they lost 2-1 to the Swing of the Quad Cities Thursday evening at O’Brien Field. With the loss, the Chiefs fall to 49-47 overall and 11-16 in the second half.
Omar Burgos’ stepped to the plate to lead off the 11th inning and with one swing of the bat, carried the Swing to a 2-1 victory. The solo shot off Chiefs’ reliever Brandon DeJaynes was his first of the season. In the bottom of the 11th, Jarrett Hoffpauir drew a walk with two outs but was left on the bases as John-Paul Davis was called out on strikes to end the game.
After recording only one hit in five innings, the Chiefs got on the board in the 6th with an unearned run. Swing starting pitcher Adam Harben had shut out the Chiefs prior to the inning, but an error by shortstop J.R. Taylor gave the Chiefs a 1-0 advantage. Davis walked to lead off the inning, and after two consecutive Chiefs’ strikeouts, Anthony Monegan slapped a single into left field that moved Davis to third. Brendan Ryan then hit a hard grounder that hit off Taylor’s glove and scored Davis.
Chiefs’ starter Cristobal Correa pitched into the 8th inning but was pulled after issuing back-to-back walks with one out. Brantley Jordan entered in relief and gave up an RBI single to Swing right fielder Mark Zamojc that knotted the game at one.
Peoria rallied in the 8th inning to load the bases with two outs off Swing reliever Julio DePaula, but Cody Haerther grounded out to end the inning. In the 9th, Daric Barton belted a one-out double into deep right-center and Hoffpauir was intentionally walked to set up the double play that Davis grounded into to end the inning.
DeJaynes was the losing pitcher for the Chiefs, falling to 2-2 on the season. In one inning pitched, he gave up one hit and one earned run while striking out three. Correa scattered just five hits and gave up only one earned run while walking three and striking out eight in a no-decision.
DePaula got the win for the Swing and in three innings pitched, gave up five hits and no runs while walking two. Harben pitched seven solid innings, giving up only 3 hits and one unearned run while striking out seven. Eric Brandon picked up his fourth save of the season as well.

Swing third baseman Omar Burgos. Burgos hit his first home run of the season in tonight’s game, a solo shot that gave the Swing a 2-1 victory. On a 3-and-2 count, Burgos took Chiefs’ reliever Brandon DeJaynes deep, improving the Swing to 15-12 on the second half of the season.
